It’s not an accident

“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit…The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart…” Luke 6:43-45a

Have you ever wondered why you said what you did? Maybe, why you reacted to a situation that way? It’s not an accident. You are who you are. The things you say and the way you act…especially in high pressure situations…come out of the heart. You can only wear the mask for so long. Eventually…you come out.

I think that’s why it’s so important to build character. It’s really easy to be promoted and moved up the chain of command based on your skills. But, the wise leader promotes based on character. Skills can only go so far. Character will always last. Why…because it is deep.

What you build inside is VERY important. Everyday we faces situations, moments, tests…how you react and what you do with these moments define who you become. What you do in the quiet moments shape your heart. The things you do when no one else is watching begin to mold you.

Don’t be fooled…the everyday, mundane moments…the details, the small things…these will make you. Take time to prepare. Make time to build the inside. What comes out of your overflow will make a difference. What kind of influence you have depends on the character of your heart.

What do you guys think? Do you agree? What things define us? How are you preparing?

Hey Chad,

It was great to meet you at Humana 2.0. I hope that you and your family enjoyed the rest of your time in Central Fla., and that your hand is feeling better!

If it helps to lessen your load, I arrived back home (north of Toronto) to about 7 feet of snow. My back hurts from shovelling.

chad

Hey Patrick,

Well…you’ve definitely got us beat. We can mourn together.

It was great meeting you. Did you make it to the beach? We went to Cocoa Beach for a while…it was wonderful.

Oh…still no word on my hand…but it is feeling marginally better. Stop by anytime.

Jason

Ok, Ok, the only thing we all had was Hot Cocoa, so let’s not get out of hand with the boasting here brother. Glad you had a great time. What was the Humana convergence all about, fill us in! Give us a good story about spending time with the McManus’s!!

Thanks for asking, man - I did get to splash around on a lonely Daytona Beach at about 8:30 on Thursday night. It was awesome … and bonechillingly cold!

Well, as you await word on your hand, I’m now waiting for some news on my foot. I ruptured my achilles tendon this past weekend playing squash. No more shoveling for now. Yay! … I mean rats.

chad

Patrick,

Man…you’re kidding. That’s sounds incredibly painful. I had no idea squash could be such a dangerous sport.

We finally found out the results on my hand…bone contusion. Essentially, a really painful bruise on the bone.

Terre Haute is melting away right now. Hopefully no more shoveling for the remainder of the winter. Fingers-crossed.

Hey Chad- Penny for your 40 thoughts- I saw that same post. The comment about people leaving the church you love and trust is always needed to be heard. Hope you are well. -Aaron
